visually inspired by topographic maps from a childhood spent climbing the mountainous landscape of arizona, i create abstractions of these formations to exemplify the inherent need to categorize organic, naturally occurring matter, into something tangible. human beings like to isolate, define and compartmentalize things they find difficult to completely understand in order to formulate something methodically tangible. however, i question if these manipulations only abstract ourselves further from the instinctual truth by giving them definitions of what we perceive them to be, instead of allowing them to be what they instinctually are. within the forms, i also investigate an individual isolation and confrontation in relation to other individuals as well as the space inhabited.
